Description
Access to this collection is generously supported by Arcadia funds. Betty holds her hands, palms up, over her shoulders, with her eyes closed and mouth agape. Betty's testimony helped in clearing her 53-year-old mother Mrs. Bessie McConnell of misdemeanor charges that she had caused a traffic accident with Mrs. Ada M. Sandstrom by failing to yield to the right of way. Because Mrs. Sandstrom did not appear in court to testify the jury exonerated Mrs. McConnell. Photograph appears with the article, "Dancer Helps Free Mother of Traffic Crash Charge," Los Angeles Times, 29 Dec 1938: A2. Text from newspaper caption: Betty McConnell, girl dancer, whose graphic description of auto crash for which her mother was blamed, contributed to her acquittal in City Court. Handwritten on negative: Betty McConnell
