Description
Access to this collection is generously supported by Arcadia funds. Photographs accompany "Red Ruffing Denies He's in Holdout Class," Los Angeles Times, 24 Jan 1939: A9. Charles "Red" Ruffing sits on his sofa, gesturing with his right hand while telling a story about Babe Ruth pointing where he was going to hit a home run. On his left hand is a heavy square carved ring. Ruffing wears a button down collared shirt with the sleeves rolled up, and slacks. On the back of the sofa is a decorative square or small flag of a stars and stripe shield centered on a baseball. This photograph appears in a photo spread: "Introducing the Best Pitcher in Southern California--Yankee Red Ruffing," Los Angeles Times, 24 Jan 1939: A9. Text accompanying photograph in newspaper: Red says his biggest thrill was in 1932 when Babe Ruth, with Cub players ribbing him, pointed to center-field stands, "like this and then hit a homer right where he predicted he would." Text from negative sleeve: 15614. Mr & Mrs Charles Ruffing. Sports. (Yankees Pitcher?) Text on decorative square over back of sofa: ALL AMERICAN
