A similar photograph of the same messenger in Pershing Square appears in the photospread, “’Call a Messenger!,’” Los Angeles Times, 25 Dec. 1938: F8 Gerry Cooke, a Western Union messenger, crouches down at right in Pershing Square. He appears to feed pigeons at left. About a dozen or so pigeons gather around some seed that lies on the ground at center. In the near distance, a long row of benches passes across the image. A few people sit on the benches facing away from camera and a few stand nearby and look towards Gerry Cooke. Downtown buildings rise in the distance. A photograph of the same event is captioned, "’Send messenger No. 61 Gerry Cooke, to Pershing Square-- feed pigeons 2:30 p.m. daily until further notice.,’" Los Angeles Times, 25 Dec. 1938: F8
