Description
One of three known copies. For two other copies see BANC PIC 19xx.490--CASE and the collection of the Oakland Museum of California. Apparently the original was copied numerous times after his shooting in 1856. King was Gold Rush banker and Chief Editor of San Francisco Evening Bulletin. He was assassinated by James P. Casey on May 14th, 1856. James P. Casey and Charles Cora were tried and executed by the second Vigilance Committee for the murder. Half length portrait, bearded, wearing a coat with a velvet collar.
