Description
Although dome-topped, suggesting a date of 1861, this image has been dated to 1865-1866 (cf. Palmquist / Fraenkel. Carleton E. Watkins photographs 1861-1874, plate 12). The cropped corners differ somewhat than typical early prints, and copies with square corners are known to exist. The Bancroft Library holds multiple copies of this photograph.
