Description
Scope/Content: Dry section of Colorado River bed created by diversion of river into the Imperial Canal, also known as the Alamo Canal.
Annotations/Markings: Handwritten caption beneath photograph in Lippincott’s original album reads “Yuma Project--Dry Bed of Colorado River Below Imperial Intake and Just Above Nigger Bend--River Diverted Into Imperial Canal.” The slur used reflects a racist place name that was in use at the time the item was created. It is omitted from the display title due to its harmful nature, but is noted here for historical context. The bend referenced is approximately 5 miles below the Lower Mexican Heading on the Colorado River.
Technique: Scanned using a Sinar x view camera with Schneider APO-Componon 150mm lens and Better Light Super 8K-2 digital scanning camera insert, 8-bit RGB at 800 ppi.
