Description
Stamped Aiken Collection on verso:"G.E.2"
Part of: British political campaign posters
This political poster features a bold, graphic illustration in a limited color palette of black, red, yellow, and white. In the foreground, the black silhouettes of three large artillery guns are positioned diagonally, pointing toward the upper right. Above and behind the guns, numerous tall, thin chimneys or smokestacks printed in red rise vertically against a yellow sky. Wisps of black smoke rise from the muzzles of the cannons, while streams of orange smoke flow from the chimneys. The lower half of the poster contains large, sans-serif block text printed in white on a black background. The words "SMOKE FROM CHIMNEYS NOT FROM GUNS!" appear just beneath the artillery, followed by the words "VOTE LABOUR" in very large white letters, the last word spanning the width of the poster. A small line of text on the bottom edge likely includes printer or publisher information.
