Title from printed label. Lower part of "Helios" is cut away. Signed Helios, lower right in negative. This scan made from a black and white copy photograph. For a closely related stereograph, see "Loya, The Sentinel; reflected" (Half stereograph example: BANC PIC 1971.055--ALB v.1:19). Label appears to be an erroneous identification made at the time this image was issued. The reflection of Sentinel Rock is in the Merced River. See Muybridge's caption to his 1872 stereograph no. 1487: "Reflection of Loya in the Merced" (BANC PIC 1971.055:1487--STER). This black and white landscape photograph features a symmetrical reflection of a tall, granite mountain peak behind a calm body of water. The mountain, a vertical rock formation with a rounded, light-colored summit and darker, textured cliffs, stands on the left side of the frame. It extends beyond the frame of the photograph, but it is mirrored perfectly in the still water that occupies the foreground and center. Dense evergreen trees and deciduous foliage line the banks of the water on both the left and right sides, with their dark silhouettes also reflected on the water's surface. The reflection of the background shows more distant, hazy mountain ridges under a clear, pale sky. In the lower right corner of the image, the word "Helios" is written in a small, stylized script. A white rectangular label is centered along the bottom edge of the photograph containing the printed text: "KEE-KOO-TOO-YEM (Water Asleep), Mirror Lake."
