Numbered 2031. This material was selectively digitized from a larger resource or collection. From folder: Redwood Highway. Dirt road through the redwood forest in Humboldt County. A sepia-toned landscape photograph shows a narrow dirt road disappearing into a dense redwood forest. The road, which is light in color and appears unpaved, starts at the bottom center of the frame and curves slightly toward the middle distance. On both sides of the road, massive, straight redwood tree trunks rise vertically, their heights extending beyond the top edge of the photo. The forest floor is shaded, with small ferns and shrubs growing at the base of the larger trees. Sunlight filters through the high canopy, creating alternating patches of light and deep shadow on the road and the textured bark of the trees.
