Description: Scope/Content: Consists of writings by Watson detailing and commenting on the three and a half year period (1956-1960) leading up to the historic land agreement of June 1960 in which The Irvine Company (TIC) gifted 1000 acres of Irvine Ranch land to the University of California (UC) to build a new UC campus in Orange County, California. The writings also document the early post-agreement period in which both UC and TIC were obligated to build a new campus and new city, respectively. It should be noted that the land transfer did not take place until December 1960.
