[Written on photograph] 1939 Chaffee Beet fertilizer plots - Unusual conditions. 2. This peculiar curling of leaves in the high nitrogen plots occurred very frequently. Condition usually accompanied by tip and margin "burn". Similar symptoms have been noted frequently in [vigorously] growing beets throughout the County. [Written on envelope] 1939 Chaffee Beet Fertilizer plot. These pictures show some unusual conditions which occurred frequently in the High Nitrogen Plots. 1. Note hollow crown and crack in each of these beets. Occurred very frequently in the large beets in the heavily fertilized plots. 2, 3, 4. This peculiar curling of leaves is the high nitrogen plots occurred very frequently. Condition usually accompanied by tip and margin "burn". Similar symptoms have been noted frequently in vigorously-growing beets throughout the County. [Negative digitized]
