[Written on envelope] This field, located north of Ventura County Hospital, was laid out for contour farming by Professor Walter Weir, Division of Soil Technology, University of California, in cooperation with Ventura County Farm Advisor, in 1916, as a part Ventura County Project Number 11, State Leader #77. The farmer failed to establish his contour ditches that season, and with heavy rains following, severe erosion resulted. The land has not been farmed since that time, with the result that the ditches are thirty to forty feet deep. [Negative digitized]
