Scope/Content: Abstract: FERC issued docket number p-477:This monitoring plan proposes to use channel complexity as an indicator of potential fish barriers following the removal of Marmot Dam. Channel complexity at four monitoring sites will be measured using the standard deviation of chaunel bed elevation, which will be surveyed annually for at least three years prior to dam removal, and continue annually after the dam removal unti[ the risks of potential passage barrier formation becomes sufficiently small. We selected one site in the Reservoir Reach, two sites in Reach 1, and one site at the top of Reach 3. In the Reservoir Reach and Reach l, the monitoring duration would be one year pins two consecutive yeats with (1) no barriers to fish passage, and (2) either improved channel complexity or channel complexity within the range of values prior to dam removal (i.e., monitoring would be conducted for at least three years in these reaches). Reach 3 would be monitored for the duration of monitoring in Reach I plus two consecutive years with (I) no barriers to fish passage, and (2) either improved channel complexity or channel complexity within the range of valuas prior to dam removal (i.e., monitoring would be conducted for at least five years in this reach). Channel bed surveys must be accompanied by reconnaissance trips to assess actual passase conditions in the Sandy River.
