Scope/Content: Abstract: Iron Stone Mine Run Dam was built in the early 1900's for water supply to a gristmill. By 2003, the dam served no functional purpose and was in an advanced state of disrepair. Located 14.4 miles upstream of the confluence with the Susquehanna River, the dam was the first impediment to fish migration on Swatara Creek. The dam was been responsible for several human injuries and fatalities and is a liability to the owner. The PA Fish & Boat Commission is currently in the process of restoring American shad and other migratory fishes to their historic range in the Susquehanna River and major tributaries through stocking of shad fry, providing passage at or eliminating barriers to migration, restoring stream habitat, and monitoring fish populations. Swatara Creek is considered a "high priority" tributary for restoration. Details in this grant report are subject to change.
