Description: Scope/Content: Abstract: This guidance is intended to encourage environmental improvements to rivers and streams anticipated to result from dam removal. The document provides guidance for conservation commissions and the Department of Environmental Protection, as the permitting authorities, in the application of the Massachusetts Wetlands Protection Act and its regulations. This guidance provides commissions with an overview of permitting issues and review considerations associated with dam removal projects. The Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs (EOEEA), Riverways Program document entitled Dam Removal in Massachusetts - A Basic Guide for Project Proponents1 contains a comprehensive review of other regulatory requirements associated with dam removal.
