Transcription: Recto Undated I. This affords sitting for 590 members of 3f. by 2 each with such commodious gangways 3 feet is complete ample depth. II. It disturbs no old wall and restores Stephens’s chapel to its original size & shape. The two buttresses at AA are already very much center cut away & their places may be supplied by arches from the new wall. III. A corridor runs all round 45. or 4.6 wide with which adding the thickness of the supporting wall will give 5.2 or 5.6 for the Strangers gallery over it; which will hold with ease in the semicircular part, 150 & the two sides would hold 26 each. IV. Over the water closets at B (lighted from the sides) will be a room for the reporters. V. The staircase at C. lighted of its whole dimensions from above with light the stairs up to the Strangers gallery & down to the long gallery & the new offices under the houses VI. The members will get into the library from behind the Speakers chair. VII. The press will bet into their seats from the upper door of their own house. VIII. At DDDD may be the vote & other offices which require to be near the lobby. IX. at E may be made a private entrance for members from Westminster Hall or the speaker’s yard. X. At F the Speaker’s entrance is preserved. Center gangway 6 feet the others 3 each Verso There are many small details of convenience which this plan would give and which must be explained verbally. To prevent the inconvenience when there are long examination the bar, of removing the bar, a gangway is brought around one such it might be brought around two. The communication between the two houses will now be to large & commodious that the difference of levels will not be of any importance – the floor of St. Stephens Chapel & of course of the house might (it is thought) be low end 1 foot or 10 inches- On thinking over this plan, the only objections I see is the darkening of the Long gallery and the lower passage to the Library – but the former could be easily remedied from above and that would go for lower side remaking any the other. A private room for the Speaker may be obtained under the sphere B to which a private corridor may branch off at X. in the private room at B there may be a descending stair to join the Speaker’s House. The House may be lighted when from above - or from two from high in the circular wall about . C & B
