1989-1190. In: [Scenes of Sacramento] [manuscript] / Eugene Walter Hepting. [Sacramento, Calif. : E. Hepting, 1938?], Vol. C, leaf 4. Corner view of a two storey building; on the right see more buildings beyond the principle building; the first floor has a roof which hangs over the sidewalk; above the building shows 11 arched windows separated by pillasters on the left side and around the corner it has 6 arched windows; a wrought-iron railing wraps around the building on the second floor; on the first floor there is a lamp post and fire hydrant near the corner and groups of men stand by both; a single man stands near the corner; at the left side a car is parked; on the right beyond the building are two more tall buildings and then a low building with "BATHS" on its front and beyond it another tall building and another low building after that one. Walter Hepting was born in Sacramento (father was from Switzerland, mother from Germany). Worked for the State Treasurer's Office. Was amateur historian, collected old photographs and images of Sacramento. "Soutwest cor. of 3rd & V street. Erected in 1852. .The first State Library was located upstairs in this building "The Overton" bldg., which was erected immmediatley after the fire of Nov. 2nd, 1852. the library was located here from 1853 to 1856.This building was owned by Read & Company, bankers., it was 2 stories, size, 60.160, cost $105,000".
