ON STRIKE! COMMUNIQUE #5 Tuesday, 18 February 1969 BROTHERS AND SISTERS: PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWINGG INFORMATION. POLITICAL CONSCIOUSNESS IS OF UTMOST IMPORTANCE AND URGENCY. IT IS ESSENTIAL TO THE FREEING OF OUR PEOPLE. NOTICES: 1. Picketing from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm, at Bancroft and Telegrath, and at Sather Gate. Follow instructions from TWLF Monitors, and Strike Support Monitors. Discipline is essential. 2. There will be a Noon Rally in Sproul Plaza, sponsored by the Radical Student Union (RSU) with minority students from Boalt Hall speaking. 3. TA's Union 1570 will be holding a strike meeting tonight. TALK TO YOUR TA's. We hope that members of this Union and other unions understand from the actions of the pigs Thursday that there is no such thing as a peaceful, informational picket line. The intimidation and gestapo tactics of the Madigan-Reagan regime is not limited to TW people only, but extends to the entire campus community. We stress again the strike is to make education on this campus relevant and accessible to everyone. REPORTS: 1. Amnesty Committee: They are holding their first TWLF meeting today at 3:00 in 509 Eshleman. They will be working on a proposal similar to the "pass/no report system" of S.F. State. 2. Legal Defense: We are in debt, but we still have working capital in the Bail Fund. We encourage those arrested to use the U.C. bail fund (up to $100). Also, we would like to test whether the $500 bail for 647c (obstructing a public passageway) is excessive which means someone must remain in jail for 8-9 hours. Please consider staying in jail anyway for 8-9 hours until the DA hears your case and oftentimes lowers bail which would save us a lot of $ 3. UNION BROTHERS FORM MUTUAL ASSISTANCE PACT WITH STRIKING STUDENTS: Jake Jacobs of the Richmond Oil Works Union announced that Local 1-561 had voted 2-1 to affiliate themselves with TW students in a mutual Assistance Pact. Workers and students are beginning to realize that there is a common basis for their struggles against the same oppressive system. We must not limit our fight to the campus alone! We must gain POWER FOR THE PEOPLE on all fronts: On Wednesday, February 19th there will be a mobilization of all Bay Area students at the Refinery in Richmond. There will be car pools leaving Berkeley between 5 and 6 am at the corner of Bancroft and Telegraph. LET US SHOW OUR SOLIDARITY WITH OUR BROTHERS IN RICHMOND. JOIN THE PICKET LINE! SHUT IT DOWN! 4. Speakers Bureau: We need people who will be willing to commit themselves as Third World speakers. Call 642-4216 and leave name and phone number. From: Third World Liberation Front, Berkeley, Steering Committee. DARE TO STRUGGLE, DARE TO WIN! -MAO LABOR DONATED
