Description
Image of a broadside advertising the Louisiana State Lottery drawn on February 11th, 1890 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Majority of the print is of a chart listing the number of gifts and amount of money awarded in the drawing. Below the title, bordered with decorative elements is a statement about the validity of the drawing. Bottom portion of the print is divided into two columns by a decorative design, the left portion lists the names of individuals and banks involved in organizing the drawing, including: R.M. Walmsley, President Louisiana National Bank; Pierre Lanaux, President State National Bank; A. Baldwin, President N.O. National Bank; Carl Kohn, President Union National Bank. The right of the decorative design is signed by former Confederate generals G.T. Pierre Beauregard and G.T. Jubal Early, who both worked as supervisors of the Louisiana State Lottery Company. M.A. Dauphin, president of the Louisiana State Lottery Company at the time, is listed as the contact person for addressed letters. Verso is printed in dark blue and is titled, “The Semi-Annual Record"; includes partial results of drawings held from August 1889 to January 1890.
“We the undersigned Banks and Bankers of New Orleans, La., will pay all prizes drawn in the Louisiana State Lotteries which may be presented at our counters. R.M. Walmsley, President Louisiana National Bank; Pierre Lanaux, President State National Bank; A. Baldwin, President N.O. National Bank; Carl Kohn, President Union National Bank.”--text, lower left of print. “The Subscribers having supervised the Single Number Drawing, Class “B” Louisiana State Lottery, hereby certify that the above are the numbers which were this day drawn from 100,000 placed in the wheel, with the prizes corresponding to them. Witness our hands at New Orleans, La., this Tuesday, February 11th, 1890.” --text, lower right of print. “G.T. Beauregard. G.T. Early.” --text, signed in stone, lower right. “Address – M.A. Dauphin, New Orleans, LA.”--text, bottom right. "Entered According to Act of Congress, in the year 1890, by the Louisiana State Lottery Company, in the office of the Librarian of Congress at Washington." --text, bottom of print. “L. Graham & Son, Printers, 99-103 Gravier St., NO." --text, bottom right corner.
