Photograph of a panoramic view of Avalon harbor, ca.1897, from the west. The steamer Hermosa #1 is leaving dock. Hotel Metropole is is the largest building. The Congregational Church is under construction at lower right. There are more tents than permanent buildings being used as dwellings. Several sailboats, including a large one, are in the harbor. A rock formation sticks up out of the water at left. This was the first photograph taken of Avalon.
