Description
V1p317a In PHOTO ALBUM-VAULT: ** fc917.9461 A3, Vol. I, page 317 top. This photograph is contained in one of two volumes by Dobbin titled "Album of San Francisco." Text written under photo: "Arrival of the first troops from Training Camp at the Ferry. These men were in training at Camp Lewis when the Armistic [sic] was declared (December 1918)." Photo shows a large crowd of soldiers and civilians in the middle of East Street just south of the Ferry Building. Several autos and one horse-drawn carriage are parked around the perimiter of the crowd. Spectators are gathered on the ferry terminal's roof. Streetcars on the Ferry Loop can be seen in the distance. Negative, no. 5,386.
