"Fahrender Sänger in Aira. Als Kopfschmuck trägt er das Fell vom Goresaaffen." ("Itinerant singer in Ayra. As headgear he wears the fur of a Goresa monkey.") Photograph of an Ethiopian itinerant musician with a one-stringed instrument.
Separate note reading: "Seine Lieder begleitet er auf seiner vor ihm hängenden Geige. Sie besteht aus einem quadratischen Holzrahmen, der mit dünnem Leder bespannt ist. Die Geige hat nur eine Saite aus Schafdarm. D[e]r Bogen ist von Rosshaar" ("He accompanies his songs on the violin that hangs in front of him. It consists of a square wooden frame that is covered with thin leather. The violin has only one string made of sheep's gut").
