Description
Two women and a young girl model their French fashions for 1831. The woman in the center wears a white blouse with scalloped collar and yoke. The collar and yoke of the blouse have double layers of scallops, pinned at the throat with a oval gold brooch. The leg o' mutton drop-shouldered sleeves have a double layer of scallops that start narrow at the center front of the waistline and extend over the shoulder, widest at the shoulder to create even more width. The scallops are edged with black embroidery. The blouse is paired with a light green ankle length skirt dotted all over with gold decorative motifs. Her hair is styled in bunches of side curls, braids at the crown, and a very large decorative tortoise shell comb on the top. She wears tear drop earrings and black shoes, and holds a small blue book open in her hand. A second woman with her back to the viewer sits in a chair and displays the back view of a similar outfit. Her outfit is all white, and shows the back v of the shoulder ruffles and how her hair is styled with a center part. Standing with her back to the viewer is a young girl in a pink knee length dress with a full skirt, buttoned down the back of the bodice. The white double ruffled collar is the same, but the pink yoke is trimmed with a single row of narrow fringe, over white leg o' mutton sleeves. She wears white lace edged pantalettes and green boots. The child's hair is dressed in side curls and two long braids down her back. She stands on her tip toes reaching up towards the woman's hand.
