Description
"Eine Waschfrau. (v. Schw. Gysing)" ("A laundry-woman. (of S[ister] Gysing"). In the background forest. Full-length portrait of a standing African woman, dressed with a simple cloth, carrying a zinc tub with laundry on her head. Another empty tub stands in front of the woman.
Editha Katharina Gysin (1899-1953) was a missionary of the Herrnhuter Brüdergemeine. She served from 1929 to 1940 in Rungwe as teacher and was engaged in the work among women.
