Description
158, 160 East Blithedale. This photo shows three storefronts as seen from across the street, with cars parked in front. The building on the right is #158 and is a two-story stucco building, light colored with dark shutters and awnings. The attached description from the 1983 Walk into History reads, "This address has housed several different enterprises. At one time it was Carlson's Upholsterers. It was remodelled to accommodate the Horizon Gallery of the Mill Valley Art League before its move to Belvedere. Long vacant because of rent raises, it is now "Simply Samples" , a dress shop." The single story bulding to the left is 160 E. Blithedale and has a more modern look. The description from the 1983 Walk into History reads, "This property was a small residence site from 1890 to 1900. During the next fifty years prior to 1950/51 it was operated as a candy store. In the early 50's it was purchased by Northwestern Savings, later Fidelity Savings and now Citicorp. It was traded with Jack McCallum, realtor, for his downtown location. McCallum operated here intil 1957/58 when he moved to his present location at 99 East Blithedale. From 1958 to 1978 it was Kramar Realty and from 1978 to the present it was and is Klenman Realty."
