Fifth edition, bear in a tree pictured in black and white on cover with red and white text, "San Diego Zoo, Official Guide Book," 50 cents. Documents the founding of the Zoological Society of San Diego and the San Diego Zoo's early growth and development in San Diego's Balboa Park, including its origins in the 1915-1916 Panama Exposition. The Fifth edition illustrates the growth and progress of the San Diego Zoo. Added Attractions to the Regular Entertainment provided by a large, rare collection of animals, are the trained Animal Acts in the Wegeforth bowl, named for the Zoo's founder, on A-Mesa, and other acts and performances as annouced by daily papers and zoo signs. In three years we have sold four printings of this guide amounting to more than eighty thousand books. The attendance at the zoo has increased steadily and with the local congestion of war installations and defense plants has reached nearly a million a year. The guide includes a plant and animal section. This edition includes a fold-out map attached to the back cover by Lowell E. Jones, Art Service Studio, as well as the Sketch Map of the San Diego Zoological Garden.
