This is a copy negative (a photograph of another photograph). "1627 Beach at Santa Monica Cal. with Long Wharf in the distance" is on item. Title transcribed from note on item; date devised by cataloger based on history of the Camera Obscura, which was built after 1897, and the large boardwalk, which is not yet built in similar photographs from the late 1890s.
