Description
Cette case, de construction récente, remplaca une vielle case, dont la photo no. 1 montre quelques détails" ("Together with Mr. F.Birkeli I visited in 1937 the grave of Andriamndrese (could also be that of Andriamisara), son of Andriamandazoala who led the Sakalava tribes to the Menabe and founded the branch of sakalava Maroseranana. This grave can be found close to the village of Benge (near Ankikiabo) placed near the shore of the Sakalava river, a little tributary to the Mangoky . This village became the first residence of the invaders and this little river Sakalava thus gave them their actual name of today. In the vicinity of the grave there is an old house, where the spirit of Andriamandrese lives. This house, constructed recently, replaced an old house, of which photo no. 1 shows some details"). -- Fridtjov Soeiland Birkeli was a missionary in Madagascar from 1933-1937 and Madagascar Inland from 1937-1945. He married Borghild Sofie 1909-1985, maiden name Sandbaek, in Antananarivo, Madagascar on April 16, 1942. She was a missionary in Madagascar from 1937-1945. -- Maroserana descend from the Sakalava tribe.
