Photograph of Figueroa Street south from California before construction, January 1939. In the extreme foreground at center, large cracks can be seen in the paved street. The street continues into the background, where several single and double lines mark the road. Several automobiles can be seen on the road, and a man is also visible running in the right lane. On the left side of the road, large signs are visible, including one which reads: "Rooms...Apartments". On the right side of the road, several automobiles can be seen parked near large, rectangular buildings. Utility poles can be seen on both sides of the street. Additional buildings can be seen in the background at left.
