Photograph caption dated October 29, 1962 reads, "Ricky Youra campaigns. It worked! He won presidential election." Led by instructor Charles Roberson, thirty-eight West Valley elementary school students learned about the election process. Students at Stagg Street School set up two parties, the Young Voters of America and the Young People's Presidential Party, held a convention, drafted platforms and nominated candidates. Then they registered in their own class precincts, campaigned and marked ballots.; See photographs #00031302-#00031305 for all images in this series.
