Description
Shown in 1915, at the intersection of Seventh and K are, to the left, the Capital Hotel and, to the right, the Golden Eagle Hotel. The latter was first built in 1853, undergoing renovations well into the twentieth-century. The former was built and then enlarged in 1871. During the Gilded Age, the Capital was considered the haven of Democrats, the Golden Eagle serving as the same for Republicans.
