Description
Robert Henry Andresen was born on November 20th, 1915, at St. Luke's Hospital in San Francisco. Bob attended Balboa High where he lettered in football, track and tennis, and got a football scholarship to the University of San Francisco. He later transferred to San Mateo Junior College, graduating in 1936. After working as a bellboy on cruise ships he was admitted to Hastings Law School. His first job was at the Massachusetts Bonding and Insurance Company. He then worked for Prudential Insurance's real estate department. After working in Army Intelligence during World War II, Bob went back to Prudential Insurance and eventually became head of the legal department, before starting in private practice in 1953. In his oral history, Bob recounts meeting his wife, Betsy Anne Brown, after a mutual friend tried to set them up on a blind date for a New Year's Eve party. He shares his memories of building their house together on Magee Avenue. Bob also delves into his experiences serving with the Mill Valley Planning Commission, actively participating in various civic affairs including the School District, Family Service Agency, Rotary, Chamber of Commerce, and Little League, and serving as Director of the Marin County Bar Association and council member for the Mill Valley City Council.
