Photograph article dated September 2, 1961 partially reads, "The Rev. Philip Nygaard is beginning his first fulltime ministerial job with an accent on adult education at Kirk O' The Valley Presbyterian Church, Reseda. 'If youngsters are to be brought up in a Christian home with Christian fellowship, it is the parents' task to guide the youngsters with the aid of the church,' he said... Although he is new to the ministry - he was ordained July 30 - the Rev. Mr. Nygaard is not new to church work. He has travelled throughout the United States as a fundraising director for various Presbyterian churches and he was pastor at Community Church on Alcatraz Island while attending the San Francisco Theological Seminary at San Anselmo."
