Description
Long-time La Cañada resident Don Birchall speaks with Lanterman Archivist Julie Yamashita about growing up and living in La Cañada for over seventy years. He explains how health issues originally brought his family to the La Cañada area in the 1940s. Birchall ran printing presses for 45 years, printing everything, including traveler’s checks. Birchall, who inherited his passion for classic cars from his father, recalls the interesting cars and owners in La Cañada, including fellow enthusiast Lloyd Lanterman. He also describes the first Los Angeles-area Ford dealership, which was built in La Cañada, then moved to Montrose, as well as its owners, the Andersons and the Tuppers. Birchall talks about Jim Huntington of Huntington Iron Works, as well as the car-racing Winfield family.
