Shows tents, buildings (some under construction), wagons.
1st New York arrived in California in July 1898, initially stationed at Camp Merritt, later transferred to Camp Merriam before shipping out to Hawaii (Aug.-Sept). Various camps established outside the Presidio boundaries; Camp Merritt occupied land belonging to the Bay District Race Track use of which was donated by the Crocker Estate. Camp Merriam was located north of the Lombard Street entrance. This is probably Camp Merriam.
