Description
"Production has begun at the Linde Company's $20 million liquid hydrogen rocket fuel plant southeast of Sacramento. Shown is a portion of the 56 acre site on Cottonwood Lane south of Gerber Road. The large sphere in the distance at right is a storage container, able to hold 200 tons of the liquid hydrogen at a temperature of minus 421 degrees. The plant's capacity of 60 tons a day makes it the largest facility of its kind in the United States. To produce this, it requires more than 14 milion cubic feet of natural gas a day, about what the City of Richmond consumes, and an estimated $1.5 million worth of electrical power a year. The plant's principal customers will be Aerojet-General Corporation and Douglas Aircraft Company, Inc."
