Description
"Third Dimension Pictures in Full Color Kodachrome." Though now considered a toy, the View-Master was introduced at the World's Fair in 1939 as a home-entertainment device. The View-Master was an updated version of the stereograph that was popularized in the 19th century. This new type of stereoviewer took advantage of the new color process, Kodachrome, and allowed for viewing of 7 images per 'reel.' The main subject of the View-Master reels was often National Monuments, such as Carlsbad Caverns or the Grand Canyon. During WWII, millions of reels were produced for the U.S. Government that aided the military in ship and plane identification and range estimation.
