Photograph caption dated August 16, 1961 reads, "Mrs. Betty Aldershof, 35, 11002 Garden Grove Ave., Northridge, suffered facial cuts Tuesday when she crashed her rented plane in the Sepulveda Dam Basin in Van Nuys. Top photo shows the light, single-engine Cessna 150 after it landed in a field, travelled about 114 feet, then hit a ditch collapsing its front wheel and flipping upside down. Mrs. Aldershof, bottom right, is shown in Valley Doctors Hospital, North Hollywood, where she was treated for face cuts and shock. A witness, bottom left, John Minnick, 8108 Zelzah Ave., Reseda, was hoeing weeds about 300 yards away when the plane crashed. Talking with reporters, Minnick said Mrs. Aldershof 'was doing good' until she hit the ditch. 'I tried to make it into the field,' the woman said, 'but I was going pretty fast.'
