Description
The Five Oaks Mansion, home of David Bidwell. People can be seen on the top roof, as well as the balcony. Horses and carriages can be seen by the entrance of mansion.
(Margaret Rowland dating of the picture , 1861 is potentially in error. Henry Reed [standing on roof] was only 3 years old in 1861). Five Oaks Mansion , home of David Bidwell (Brother of John) and W M Henry and Mary Bidwell Reed. This was the original home- it was burned and rebuilt (unclear on the date of fire- after 1877 though as this building pictured here is shown in Smith and Elliott's Butte County History that year). The people in the picture identified as follows: Top of house- Harry Bidwell Reed (born 1858, died 1930), windows walk (left to right)- Emroy Bidwell Hobart (1847- 1938), Marry Bidwell Reed (1842- 1906), William H. Reed (1828- 1900). Front porch left to right: Daniel Bidwell (1807- 1887), Lucinda Burnap, Elizabeth Codman Bidwell (1805- 1897; wife of Daniel Bidwell)
