Description
Charles Handy article assessing the British Government's claim to exemption regarding a cap on working hours for employees. Handy first highlights the European Court's declining the British Government's plea that their employees be exempt from the 48-hour-a-week cap on British labor. He then states that, though the move toward increased working hours may be a sensible move to stay competitive, it is not civilized. Handy notes that the move toward increased working hours is especially uncivilized given how, in some British industries, the average wage is below three dollars an hour. He therefore fears that British society may be turning into a decadent and exploitative one.
