Description
Pictured in 1949 are dedication ceremonies at the newly-established Sacramento State College, at 6000 J Street. In the background is a peach orchard, serving as a temporary parking lot. At various times, up to six separate locations were under consideration for the campus, the early preference being the 142 acre Jacinto Tract on Fruitridge Road, east of Stockton Boulevard. At the time this photograph was taken, classes were operating out of Sacramento Junior College, where 80 classes were offered to the school's 850 students.
