This photograph is contained in one of two volumes by Dobbin titled "Album of San Francisco."
Text written under photo: "Russ House Montgomery Street bet. Bush & Pine Sts. 1865." Written to right next to appropriate buildings: "Odd Fellows Hall Calif. & Montgomery," and "Mead House." Photo shows the block-long, three-story Italianate Russ House, on the west side of Montgomery between Bush and Pine. A few carriages and wagons are parked at the sidewalk. The tracks of the Omnibus Railroad Company occupy the middle of Montgomery Street. The awnings are in use over the hotel's sidewalk, meaning that the names of the firms occupying the storefronts cannot be seen.
