Six plans are: "Lines / 3/8 IN. = 1 FT." ; [Details of vessel] ; "Detail Sheet No. 2" ; "Outboard Profile / Scale: 1/4 IN = 1 FT" ; "Sail Plan Sheet No. 2 / Scale: 1/4" = 1' "; "Inboard Profile / Deck Plan / Scale 1/4 In. 1 FT". "Table of Offsets"--small sheet laid in with the six plans. The California was built in 1848 by Wm. H. Webb of New York for the Pacific Mail Steamship Company and these drawings are recreations of the ship based on research done by Mr. Shaw; the plans, which may have been used by ship model builders, contain numerous details, including rigging, outboard profile, and planking. Measurements are for the largest sheet. Focus of item: California (1848-1866 ; 1872-1874).
