Description
Winty the dog at the wheel of a Winton automobile. The Polhemus home on Stockton Ave. can be seen in the distance. From "Tours in an Automobile" Photo Album. George Polhemus was the only Winton dealer in Santa Clara County. His 1908 Six-Teen-Six Touring Car featured a 6-cylinder engine generating 48.6 horsepower and could accommodate seven people. Polhemus was a special invitee to the Mitchell Automobile Run even though he owned a Winton. The Polhemus family dog posed in front of their home on Stockton Avenue near Polhemus Avenue (now Taylor Street). George Polhemus' father Charles B. Polhemus owned the 110 acre Stockton Rancho. The home was later moved onto the grounds of Bellarmine College Preparatory school.
