Setting the choker. A choker is a piece of wire rope with a "D" or steel eye babbited and fastened into each end. On this line there is a sliding hook. One end of the line is passed around the log and the hook is hooked into the "D" as can be seen in the print. The other end of the line hooks into the "Butt hook" as shown in another photo and by connection with the main line is drawn in to the landing. As the choker is pulled, the choker hook slides and "chokes" the log, the choker making a noose
