Description
“Chillanwallah – monument on left.” Landscape view of large open field. In the distance on the left side the obelisk monument is visible. The Battle of Chillianwallah, fought as part of the Second Anglo-Sikh War, occurred on 13 January 1849. While the battle did not result in a significant military victory for either side, it was considered a victory to Sikh morale that they could withstand a more numerous British force. The obelisk was constructed by the British to honour those who fell in battle.
