Photograph was edited for publication purposes Photograph caption dated March 1, 1961 reads "A fire-fighting device that 'is no good for battling a kitchen fire buy absolutely perfect for any disaster where an immediate fire-break is needed' was demonstrated Tuesday in Van Nuys by the Los Angeles Fire Department. Here, fireman Bob Vivian shows off a new piece of equipment designed by the Jamieson Laboratories, 7900 Haskell Ave., Van Nuys, as he rides atop his Caterpillar tractor. Wearing the company's refrigerated helmet, Vivian can get as close to the fire as he desires and can level the house in a matter of minutes, containing the fire to a specified area. At the rear is a wind machine that sprays 'humidified air' over a fire area to 'cool it down' for firemen to approach. This device, designed by Controlled Airstreams, Inc., Inglewood, was another of the devices tested by the fire department in its current training program."
