Description
Photograph of the painting "Chariot Race in the Circus Maximus" by Alexander Wagner, [s.d.]. The painting depicts a group of charioteers urging their horse-drawn chariots around the bend in Rome's Circus Maximus. A chariot led by white horses holds the front position, pictured at center, while many of the horses behind him are darkly colored. To the left, the emperor appears to have his seat on a cleared pedestal topped by a throne. Other spectators can also be seen hanging in from the stands at the right.
