Recording of Arthur Godfrey performing a parody of “America the Beautiful'' written by Ed Zern entitled “America the What?” The recording was made by Norville Gillespie for Fred Farr, who was appointed national coordinator of highway beautification for the U.S. Department of Transportation under the Johnson administration, from 1967 to 1969. Previously, Fred Farr served as a California State Senator and was an early proponent of environmental conservation. This tape is part of Fred Farr's papers. It is labeled "for Fred Farr, from Noru Gillespie, Arthur Godfreyis Parody, America the Beautiful...WHAT!". Fred Farr served as California State Senator representing Monterey County from 1955 to 1967.
