Presidential candidate Ángel Aníbal Guevara holds up his fingers to make a victory signs to a crowd of people at a campaign rally. Many in the crowd are holding signs in support of him. On March 8, 1982 Guevara won the presidential election although electoral fraud was claimed by other parties. A military coup prevented Guevara from assuming power and installed a three-man junta headed by General Efraín Ríos Montt. Muchos entre la multitud sostienen carteles en apoyo de él. El 8 de marzo de 1982, Guevara ganó las elecciones presidenciales aunque el fraude electoral fue denunciado por otros partidos. Un golpe de estado militar impidió que Guevara asumiera el poder e instaló una junta de tres hombres encabezada por el general Efraín Ríos Montt.
